Salvation Holy Spirit

Vs.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Acts 19:2-6 (Ephesians)

“And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.” And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in  the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.”

Acts 8:15-17 (Samaritans)

“who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Apostles and the Holy Spirit

  • Resurrection Sunday Received Holy Spirit  (John 20:22).
    • Which passed them from “Old Testament Salvation” to “New Testament Salvation”.
  • On Pentecost Day they were Baptized in the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:4)
  • During prayer they were Re-Filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:28-31)

Jesus and the Holy Spirit

Baptism of Jesus and Holy Spirit  (Luke 3:21)

  • Water Baptism and Baptism of the Holy Spirit same day.
  • Jesus went to wilderness being filled with the Holy Spirit.  (Luke 4:1)
  • Came out with the Power of the Holy Spirit to start his Ministry.
    • Through signs, wonders, miracles people were being saved. (Luke 4:14)
    • Holy Spirit and Anointing on Jesus to do God’s work. (Luke 4:18-19, Isaiah 61:1-3)

** If Jesus needed the power of the Holy Spirit and His anointing, how much more do we need?

How to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

  1. Don’t beg God to give the Holy Spirit because God had already given in Acts 2. Just receive it. (Acts 19:1-2)
  2. If you are saved then you are ready to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)
  3. By laying hands on. Anyone can lay their hands on a person by faith, although some are anointed and used along these lines more than others. (Acts 8:5-8 12-17)
  4. Yield to the Spirit. Speak out when the Holy Spirit gives utterance (Acts 2:4). Don’t try to speak in your own language.
  5. Continue to speak to God and praise in the supernatural, until the language becomes more and more fluent.
  6. Ask the Lord to remove all your fears and mindsets about the gift of tongues.

Initial Evidence on Receiving the Holy Spirit

Speaking in tongues is the initial evidence or sign of the Holy Spirit’s infilling Presence (Acts 2:4). I believe, of course, that there are other evidences that will follow, but this is the first or initial physical evidence.

TONGUES

  • Why tongues of fire?

Tongues symbolizes speech and the communication of the Gospel. Fire symbolizes God’s purifying presence, which burns away the undesirable elements of our lives and sets our hearts aflame to ignite the lives of others.

At Mount Sanai, God confirmed the validity of the Old Testament law with fire from heaven (Exodus 19:16-18). At Pentecost, fire came down on many believers, symbolizing that God’s presence is now available to all who believe in Him.

  • Are your senses dull?

People who have learned to walk in the Spirit are mature sons of God. They imitate the Character of the Father.

  • Misconception

Baptism with the Holy Spirit will not of itself make you a better Christian. The Fruits of the Holy Spirit will.

WHY DO WE NEED THE GIFT OF TONGUES?

Speaking in tongues has 2 main purposes:

  1. For public ministry, when it comes with interpretation=prophecy
(Not all have this gift — 1 Cor.14:5)
  2. For personal walk
  • Intercession Defeats our weakness when we do not know what to pray.
    • Romans 8:26 – “So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.”
  • Personal Prayer Language – Speaking in tongues is speaking to God. It keeps us connected to heaven -spirit to spirit- by passing the soul (mind).
    • We can speak to God on His Level! 1 Corinthians 14:2 – “For one who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands or catches his meaning, because in the [Holy] Spirit he utters secret truths and hidden things [not obvious to the understanding].”
    • Paul said he prays more than all of us in the Spirit – 1 Corinthians 14:14 – “For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit within me] prays, but my mind is unproductive [it bears no fruit and helps nobody].”
    • Many people do not want to give up their mental control. – 1 Corinthians 14:15 “Then what am I to do? I will pray with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will also pray [intelligently] with my mind and understanding; I will sing with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will sing [intelligently] with my mind and understanding also.”
    • It gives us the ability to worship and give thanks on a higher level (1 Corinthians Chapters 14-17).
  • Gives us rest and it brings refreshing (1 Corinthians 14:20-21)
  • It will quiet our soul and we can hear God more clearly. It reveals the hidden counsel and mysteries of God. (Proverbs 20:5)
  • Edifies and builds up our spirit
    • Edifies: to build a house or an edifice. “Edifice” [Webster’s Dictionary] – a large or massive structure. It will promote spiritual growth and develop Godly character. You are building within your spirit the capacity of holding the power and presence of God.
    • It strengthens our faith. – Jude 20 – “But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit”
  • It increases our capacity to walk in His Power. How do we become more sensitive and enabled to walk in His Power? By becoming more sensitive to HIM! It is a relational walk with HIM!

Prophecy Is Equivalent to Tongues and Interpretation

“…to edification and exhortation, and comfort” (1 Cor. 14:3)

In 1 Corinthians 14:5 Paul was saying that if someone interprets what he gives forth in tongues, then the one who prophesies is not greater than the one who gives forth a tongue and interpretation. Paul was also saying in this passage that tongues with interpretation is equivalent to prophecy.

CONCLUSION

  • Baptism of the Holy Spirit releases God’s Power so that we can be witnesses of His Resurrection.
  • It is manifestation of being filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • It’s a powerful weapon in spiritual warfare. Tongues provide rest and refreshing for the workers while engaging in spiritual warfare (Isaiah 28:12). This is important due to the spiritual drain of the Deliverance Ministry.
  • Praying in tongues keep us built up and edified that we may be strong in the Lord and the power of His might. Tongues are needed to successfully wrestle against the powers of darkness. Speaking in tongues during deliverance sessions irritates and weakens demon spirits. (Mark 16:17)

THE GIFT OF TONGUES IS SIMPLY THE SPIRIT-ENERGIZED ABILITY TO PRAY, WORSHIP, GIVE THANKS OR SPEAK IN A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN OUR OWN.

So it is a God-given gift. It is God’s idea. He came up with it! Apparently, it is God the Holy Spirit helping us to pray, worship and give thanks.
